I ignited something truly unique – MRM/McCann's first Black Affinity Group within my agency, all about boosting Black creatives and professionals in an industry where we're just about 7%. Alongside the brilliant Jeturi Brown, Brittany King, and Tranell Slaughter, we didn't just start this, we sprinted with it, determined to make a real impact.
Our efforts, dedication, and creativity were celebrated at the Adcraft Advertising Awards, where we proudly won the prestigious 2024 D Show Award for our insightful video. Concepted, organized, and directed by Black creatives and produced by Woodward Original, this accolade highlights the significance and success of our initiative, underscoring our commitment to excellence in the industry.
My creative role and leadership within MRM #InTheBlk
As the driving force behind this initiative, I played a pivotal role in shaping the Black Affinity Group and conceptualizing the idea to create a compelling video that showcases the unique perspective of a Black professional in our industry. From the inception of the group's name, "InTheBlk," to the development of the video concept, Jeturi and I led the charge.
Jeturi and I took the concept of the video to my colleagues and then to the Executive Leadership Team, advocating for the resources needed to bring this project to life. We crafted a comprehensive video treatment, underscoring the importance of capturing an authentic, documentary-style feel to ensure the narrative resonated as genuine and unfiltered.
Beyond the video project, I've consistently brought this same leadership and passion to guide the entire group. Our collective mission is to attract and retain more Black professionals within our industry, and I'm dedicated to driving that vision forward.
